Push Your Kids into Purpose

Hello My Friends,

Often times we brush off signs that are actually revealing the hidden potential in our kids. This potential will ultimately define their purpose, if nurtured and developed properly. I used to think that my daughter just talked too much. When she wanted to use up all of my paper and take my journals, I used to think she just wanted to bother my stuff. Last year, the Lord opened my eyes to the hidden potential that I was suffocating in my daughter. Once I thought about it for a moment, I realized that she was a lot like her mom:) She loves purses, bags, jewelry, clothes, shoes and Lip Gloss. (I know you feel me, moms) She also loves to sing. (She didn't get that from me)

Last year I decided to help cultivate her love for these things and we began designing customized bags. Instead of Scrapbooking, we started Scrapbagging. We used the same concept and the same type of supplies, except we designed bags based on certain themes instead of pages in a book. The response was overwhelming! I didn't know that it would take-off like that but I was so excited because of what it did for my daughter. Instead feeling like her hair wasn't long enough, her skin bright enough, and her stomach wasn't flat enough, she began to feel good about owning her own business. I was just testing the waters so I had my Marketing Manager, to print her some business cards and create a one page website. Wow.......that really shifted Shakinah to another level. She finally found something that made her feel good about herself. Already, we are receiving emails and calls, asking if bags will be available this year for Christmas. Of course, the answer is YES! Some of the themes include: Girly Girl, Princess, All About Me, Diva, Too Cute, LadyBugs, Sun Flowers, BestFriends, Sisters, Mother & Grandmother and many more.

Being that she loves to read and write, I asked her to start writing about Friendship. She has this thing about wanting everyone to be her friend and getting upset and sad when someone doesn't speak to her anymore and/or decides that they don't want to be her friend. Well, this gave me an opportunity to talk to her about what real friendships are made of. She began writing her first Children's book entitled: Real "FRIENDS". It will be finished and published by Spring of 2010. I sat down and read her manuscript the other day and almost fell out. It was obvious that she takes friendship seriously but what was even more alarming, I could feel her insecurities through her writings. Allowing her to do this has helped me to understand her frame of mind. Now, I put more time and energy into building her self-esteem and making her see just how precious, significant, gifted, talented and lovable she really is.

I admonish you to tap into the potential that lay dormant on the inside of your children. When you see an overpowering or dominant characteristic or gift in them, nurture and develop the positive side and channel the negative energy into positive potential. It's time to raise up a remnant of young entrepreneurs and challenge them to become the Employer and not the Employee. It's already in them, but it's up to us, as parents, to bring it out!
